Frequently Asked Questions for this Service
Question: At what age can a child visit the library by themselves?
Answer: Children under 8 must always be accompanied by a responsible adult. This includes children attending organised events. Children over 8 can visit the library by themselves, but cannot be left in sole charge of a younger sibling under 8. However, while we do everything we can to ensure children's safety, please be aware that libraries are busy public places, and library staff are not able to assume responsibility for looking after children. Some events for children aged over 8 will also require the attendance of an adult, although some will allow a child to be left as long as contact information is provided. This will be made clear on the event publicity. Children must never be left at an event without checking with the event organiser.
