Question: Can I put my poster for an event on your notice board?
Answer: Please give a copy of the poster to your local library, for approval, and please do not put up posters yourself There are certain categories of poster and leaflet that we cannot display, for example posters promoting political parties or religions, or campaigning literature.

Question: Do your libraries have baby changing facilities?
Answer: Newport, Ryde and Sandown Libraries have private baby-changing facilities - please ask the library staff to give you access. At our other libraries there are no private facilities, but please feel free to change your baby in the children's library area.

Question: Is there WiFi in Isle of Wight libraries?
Answer: Free WiFi is available in all Isle of Wight libraries. Ask in the library for the password, which changes on the first Monday of every month. To use the WiFi, you will need to agree to an acceptable use policy and provide a valid email address. With some devices, you will need to "forget" the network whenever the password changes, and then reselect it from the list of available networks. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer wireless printing.

Question: How do I join the library?
Answer: Membership of the Library Service is free.
If you are aged 16 years or over you can join at any of our libraries but you will need proof of your name. If you are under 16, you will need to be accompanied by your parent/guardian with proof of their name.
You can also join the Library Service online.

Answer: All our branch libraries contain books about music, and a selection of song books and music tutors. The Island's Music Collection is housed at Lord Louis and Ventnor Libraries.
Orchestral sets, sets of vocal scores and books on music are housed at Ventnor Library.
Individual playing scores, miniature scores, song books and tutors for a wide variety of instruments are housed at Lord Louis Library.

Question: How can I reserve a book that is not in the Library?
Answer: If the item is in stock or on order, you can reserve it online in the library or from home. If the item is not in stock, you can complete a form on the library catalogue or ask a member of staff.
It costs 60p to make a reservation. However, if we borrow the book from a mainland Library Service there is a further £7.50 charge, with £11.50 additionally charged for loans from the British Library.

Answer: Newport Library contains a collection of family history books.
Find My Past is available free of charge when you use a public computer in the library - please ask at the help desk for more information.
You will find Isle of Wight genealogical information, including census records and OS Maps at the County Records Office.

Question: How can I access the internet?
Answer: Internet computers (The People’s Network) are available in all our libraries except the Mobile Library. To use a public computer you must either be a member of the Library Service, or provide appropriate identification, and agree to the acceptable use policy. It is free to use the computers, but we charge 20p per side of A4 for printing. There is also a free wifi connection available in all libraries. Ask library staff for the password, which changes every month. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer wireless printing.

Question: Can I borrow CDs?
Answer: Due to very low demand, CD collections are no longer available in Isle of Wight libraries, apart from a selection of classical music CDs at Lord Louis Library - these are available to hire for £1.00 per week.
