Service Description: Equality and diversity is part of the Strategic Human Resources service provision. The council as a public body is required to meet its statutory obligations under the Equality Act 2010 for employment and provider/comissioner of services. We must have due regard to the need to eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equal opportunities between different groups of people and to foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic. The nine protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010 are; age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy/maternity, marriage/civil partnership, race, religion/belief, sex and sexual orientation.
