What is a Chaperone

Under the Children & Young Persons Act 1933, the Children & Young Persons Act 1963 and the Children (Performances and Activities) (England) Regulations 2014, all children who take part in licensed performances must be supervised by a responsible adult.

If they are not supervised by a parent or guardian they must be supervised by an approved Chaperone who is responsible for looking after children during the course of a performance, including travel to and from the event. A chaperone is expected to exercise the same care and control as a good parent would, with a view to securing the child's health, comfort, kind treatment and moral view. The Chaperone must have a valid licence issued by the Local Authority.
