Health and Safety at work

The aim of Health and Safety enforcement is ‘protect people and reduce risks arising from work activities on the Island’.

On the Isle of Wight enforcement of health and safety legislation is split between the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Isle of Wight Council Environmental Health Service. The HSE covers factories, building sites, mines and quarries, farms, fairgrounds, railways, chemical plant and offshore and nuclear installations. The Isle of Wight Council cover shops, warehouses, offices, hotels and catering, sports, leisure, consumer services, (e.g. launderettes, hairdressers, undertakers, shoe repair, tyre and exhaust fitters), residential care homes and churches.
