Enjoy the benefits of this rewarding role as you lead and manage our dynamic Software Development Team on web and software projects covering all areas of the Isle of Wight Council.

We want an innovative, enthusiastic Software Development Manager who can demonstrate a sound understanding of software development processes to provide strong leadership and management and ensure appropriate resource planning within our busy team.

In this customer focused position, you’ll engage and support customers in identifying business requirements and pro-actively ensure maintenance activities and new developments are effectively managed.

It’s an exciting time for this authority as we continue our ‘digital by default’ journey, adopting Government Digital Services best practice to support our digital strategy and ensure community needs are met by the best public digital services.

We are looking for a true blend of management and technical skill to support and lead our team. 

Management

Your expertise will support our team with technical tasks, resource management, prioritisation of workloads and implementation of change as the service evolves.

As an active member of our ICT Management Team, you’ll contribute to overall service improvement, acting as a champion for good practice, innovation and customer engagement. 

You’ll also support with service planning, budget planning and forecasting.

 

Software Development

You’ll lead the way in how we manage the delivery of software development projects ensuring we design, develop, implement, and maintain appropriate software solutions that meet our customer’s needs and you’ll ensure that support continues throughout project lifecycles.

You’ll attend high level meetings advising on and providing specialist knowledge of complex projects in an engaging, clear manner to help ensure our work is completed within time, budget and to the required quality.

The Isle of Wight Council is a champion of agile and flexible working practices, and this role offers a hybrid blend of remote working and in-person team liaison. It is likely that the role will require up to 4 days on site here on the Isle of Wight each month which will encompass wider team meetings and 1:2:1 sessions with members of your team.  If preferred, there is the option to work more frequently from our various council buildings in collaborative and private workspaces.
