Contract Type: Casual

The Isle of Wight Council has welcomed news that every child in England will be offered cycle training under government plans to boost active travel. The Bikeability programme is to be significantly expanded to ensure all children have access to advice on bike safety and skills.

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible people to deliver Bikeability Cycle Training.  You will be responsible for helping to deliver the National Standard Bikeability cycle training at schools for Level 1 and 2.

You must be a National Standard qualified cycling instructor and be reliable, confident, punctual and a good communicator.  An ability to work in all weather extremes and daytime availability will also be essential.

This is a bank (zero hours) contract. The amount of work Instructors are offered depends on the number of requests for training we receive. Some periods are busier than others and there are some periods when no work is on offer.

We deliver cycle training to all schools on the island mainly within term time and during the school day.

Most of our training is delivered by Instructors working in teams, although we do also offer training at one-to-one or very low ratios that can be delivered by a single Instructor.

Whilst on a bank contract you do not need to commit to working all day or every week, you do need to be available for a complete individual course. For 'Bikeability Level 1' courses, it is usually two hours work. For 'Bikeability Level 2' courses it is generally 8 hours work per day over 3 - 4 days.

For further information or an informal discussion, please contact Elaine Davison elaine.davison@iow.gov.uk or Alec Broome alec.broome@iow.gov.uk or on 01983 823818
