Hours: 37 per week (Term time only: Monday to Friday 9am-5pm (Flexibility may be required)
The Virtual School for looked after children is looking to appoint a caseworker to support our post-16 cohort to access or sustain education, training or employment. The worker will work directly with young people, schools/colleges, social workers, and other professionals supporting the young people to meet their potential. Alongside the Post-16 cohort, the worker will also caseload our Early Years cohort working closely with the Early Years Advisory Team to ensure Personal Education Plans are completed and our youngest minds are supported to access education settings to further their development. Working to the Education Advisor, and alongside the wider Virtual School team on the Isle of Wight the job will offer a variety of tasks.
This varied role will include duties such as:
- Direct work with young people including target setting, review meetings and mentoring
- Preparation of materials for meetings and events
- Communication in a variety of forums with personnel at all levels, both internal and external to the organisation
- Undertaking appropriate research as and when required
- Data and caseload management
- Confidential information management
Prior experience of working in an education, youth work or a social care setting will be required. Due to grant conditions, this is currently a 12mth fixed term post.

This role falls within the strategic partnership between the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire County Council. The employer will be the Isle of Wight Council and employment is on Isle of Wight terms and conditions. Hampshire County Council has delivered, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, all of its children’s services functions and will continue to do so until 2023. The original five-year partnership arrangement under direction of the Secretary of State finished in 2018 but has been extended voluntarily by both local authorities for a further five years.
The management reporting line for this role is ultimately through Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Director/Assistant Director and managers who take operational responsibility for children’s services.
