Suicide First Aid Lite (Youth)

Target Group:
Principals, Head Teachers/Heads of Year, Safeguarding leads, Teachers, Teaching Assistants, School counsellors, Pastoral Staff, Residential School Settings, School Health Nurses, LSA (Learning Support Assistant)/ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants)/School based Counsellors/Youth Workers, Administration Staff, Primary Care Staff/Hospital School Teaching Teams, Alternative Education Provision, Secure Unit Staff Teams etc.
Course Aims:
The course comprises 4 parts, each 90 minutes duration. The programme teaches knowledge and skills needed to identify children and young people who may be thinking about suicide with the opportunity to build confidence through practise to competently facilitate a Suicide First Aid intervention.
Intended Impact:
As a result of attending this course, participants will:
-Improve understanding of young people thinking of and engaging in suicide behaviour; reasons and magnitude of the community health problem.
-Understand the role of the carer in managing suicide interventions; different roles with different people
-Understand approaches and process of suicide intervention including desired outcomes
-Understand the importance of self-reflection and personal impact when working with suicide and people at risk
Prerequisites:
No previous experience or training is necessary.
Notes:
There is no expectation on participants to share personal experiences
Attendance Charges:

The H&S Team and IWC Learning and Development, have completed competency assessments on all providers advertised in the Learning Hub. Therefore, any physical or mental health first aid providers/courses advertised via the Learning Hub do not require schools/other organisations to carry out competency assessments (as per the 2024 HSE First Aid guidance changes). This applies to both current and future providers/courses
