Target Group:
Education staff working in primary settings
Course Aims:
The course explores the link between SEMH and communication providing information and strategies. The course will explore:
- What is SEMH and the link between SEMH and SLCN
- Theories to explain SEMH
- Language and vocabulary development to support SEMH needs
- Supporting social communication and emotional literacy
- SEMH aware environments
Intended Impact:
By the end of this course learners will:
- Have an increased understanding of SEMH and will have a range of strategies at their disposal which can be used to support children’s communication whenever and wherever they are being taught.
- Settings will be able to fulfil statutory requirements relating to Elklan trained members of staff delivering specific support or intervention to students with SEMH/SLCN
Prerequisites:
Participants need to have achieved accreditation at level 2 or 3 for an Elklan Speech and Language Support for 0-3s, 3-5s, 5-11s, 11-16s, Post-16s, SLD, ASD or Vulnerable Young People before being able to enrol on this course

Participants on this course will need to buy the SEMH Language Builders for £24 from the ELKAN website and the accreditation fee will be £77.50.
