Managing Safeguarding Responsibilities (Non-education settings)

Target Group:
Staff who do not work in education settings but have a substantial degree of responsibility to act upon children and young people’s welfare concerns, or who manage others who are working frontline with children and young people who may raise safeguarding concerns.
Example workplaces:
Fire Service, Voluntary sector, Managers/seniors in residential childcare provision, Leisure or Library services.
N.B. For staff working in Schools and Early Years settings there is a specific education focused ‘Designated Safeguarding Lead’ course that should be attended.
Course Aims:
The course will seek to challenge your practice and improve your ability and that of your organisation to safeguard children effectively.
Intended Impact:
By attending this course, you will:
• Understand your role and responsibilities
• Be aware of current legislation and guidance, both nationally and locally
• Refresh your skills in identifying the indicators of abuse and neglect
• Examine the research on the vulnerabilities of specific groups of children and consider the impact from the cost-of-living crisis
• Examine best practice guidance for acting upon, recording and reporting concerns
• Know how to apply professional judgements around a child’s welfare and to work in a child-centred manner
• Examine the local resources, toolkits and best practice guidance for working with parents, children and families
• Identify areas to improve your own practice, look for solutions to challenges and know where to access support
