Top Tips for Mental Health and Wellbeing

Target Group:

Anyone aged 16 and above.



Course Aims:

- Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first level support and early intervention
- Reflect on your own mental health and wellbeing
- Learn about the importance of sleep, diet, exercise, hobbies and interests, relationships and giving back
- Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
- Practice self-care



Intended Impact:

As a result of attending this course, participants will be able to:

- A deeper understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect people’s wellbeing
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
- Explain what mental health is
- Understand the impact of stress on our health and wellbeing
- Describe how to look after your own wellbeing and mental health
- The confidence to step in and support someone to recover their health by guiding them to appropriate support

**Please note - There is the option for this course to take place either face-to-face at our Learning Centre, or virtually via Zoom. Please ensure you choose your preferred method by checking the location of your chosen date before booking**

Course Trainer:
Kate Golding

Trainer Biography:

Kate is a Consultant Nurse (the highest clinical nursing grade) and has a BSc Psychology and a MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. Kate has taught health and social care and psychology up to degree level and continues to work privately as a training consultant in the area of infant, child, adolescent and adult mental health. In addition to this, Kate was one of the leads for the targeted mental health in schools project on the Isle of Wight. Kate was the clinical lead and, in this role, developed an end-of-life transition service for under twenty-fives at Mountbatten Hospice.

Kate has provided clinical supervision for psychologists, nurses and social workers and currently, Kate provides clinical supervision for a large setting with patients who have profound and complex needs. Kate is an expert witness and she is a senior case manager representing patients who have been exposed to medical negligence or life changing injuries.

Kate is a trainer for nurture training and youth, adult mental health and suicide first aid among other bespoke packages around mental health and emotional wellbeing. Kate has trained regularly for local authorities, NHS, The Prince’s Trust, Oxford Brookes and Portsmouth University, MIND, schools, foster care teams, foster carers, children’s homes, early years, housing associations, police, social care, premier league, SEN, CITB, Standard Chartered, Community Action and many more including at the Houses of Parliament. Feedback is always excellent and the attendees often comment about Kate’s engaging delivery style, expert knowledge and say as well as having learnt masses of information, they have had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Kate always gets asked to return and deliver more training.

In 2019 Kate was one of the authors for the MHFA England youth half day aware course, manual and workbook. Kate also delivered mental health training in Spain and Latvia raising her international profile. 2020 brought Covid 19 and Kate was asked to do a piece of work for NHS England, Homeless Link and MHFA England delivering lots of training to a range of professionals and volunteers supporting rough sleepers and the homeless. In 2021, Kate was a keynote speaker at the MIND Jersey annual conference talking about reconnecting with hope during the COVID 19 pandemic. Kate trained the newly formed NHS England and NHS Improvement team responsible for the COVID 19 inquiry and this was such an honour and a privilege. In 2022 Kate went to parliament and provided training for a group of MP’s. During this year, Kate has been published in the Nursing Times and the Neuro Rehab Times and she was also interviewed for a podcast about her life as a nurse. In a series called ‘Ordinary Pioneers.’

Kate is one of the most respected clinicians and teachers in the south of England. As a Consultant Nurse, Kate has to engage with research and writing, clinical practice, leadership and teaching all of which require her to be up to date with current legislation and research.
