Course Trainer:
Kate Golding

Trainer Biography:

Kate qualified as a general nurse in 1998 and worked in Accident and Emergency and various prisons for five years where she gained a degree in psychology. Following the birth of her daughter, she began teaching at the Isle of Wight College as a lecturer in Health and Social Care and psychology covering GCSE, A ‘Levels and degree level courses. Kate returned to nursing after three years and was employed by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service where she was seconded to Ryde Children’s Centre for five years and worked with the age range 0-5 alongside a health visitor and a midwife. Kate was asked to become involved in the Targeted Mental Health in schools project in 2010-2011 and this involved a target group of children who were assessed before, during and after psychological interventions were delivered. The idea was to support schools in supporting children with emotional and psychological distress so this could be sustained long after the project had finished. Kate was then seconded to the Youth Offending Team where she worked with 10-18 year olds. Kate was asked by the Autistic Diagnostic Research Centre (ADRC) to work as a nurse consultant within the field of autism. Part of this role includes being trained in neuro-psychology.

Kate has recently become an Ambassador for the Royal College of Nursing and she is National Trainer for MHFA England. Kate is due to take up post at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice where she is setting up a service for children and young adults with life limiting conditions. Kate is also just finishing her MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Southampton.

Kate regularly delivers training and has a particular interest in attachment theory and working with traumatized children. Kate delivers training all over the country and last year she delivered this course at The House of Commons which was very exciting! Kate has a dream of one day opening a therapeutic children’s home.
