Professional Boundaries

Target Group:

For personal assistants working in the community.



Course Aims:

Following the consultation with the Isle of Wight accredited PA’s, this course has been designed to enable attendees to define effective and appropriate interactions, understand and implement good practice and manage boundary issues effectively.

It covers; relevant legislation, code of conduct, formal and informal support workers, communicating appropriately, confidentiality, relationships, crossing boundaries and best practice.



Intended Impact:

  • Define professional boundaries and responsibilities in practice
  • Understand why professional boundaries are essential in Health and Social Care
  • Understand the importance of professional codes of conduct, local policies and procedures
  • Be able to establish rules of contact and maintain a safe distance
  • Demonstrate professional behaviour and avoid dual relationships
  • Be prepared to identify and deal with risk factors, including reporting breaches of professional boundaries
