Rescue Medication in Epilepsy (Midazolam)

Target Group:

This course is specifically for staff who fall into one or more of these categories:
• new to social care
• have not attended any learning in this area
• have not attended learning for over two years
• may lack confidence or have been assessed by their manager as needing to increase competence



Course Aims:

By the end of this course you will:

• Gain an understanding of the different rescue medications in epilepsy
• Experience a practical session on the administration of Oromucosal Midazolam

Please ensure you adhere to the pre-requisites listed for this course.



Intended Impact:

This specialist session aims to ensure delegates feel more confident and competent in administering rescue medication to those with epilepsy.





Prerequisites:

Please note there are pre-requisites before attending this session which are as follows:

• Have attended an ‘Epilepsy Awareness’ course in the last 2 years (Sessions are often held on the same date therefore you can attend Epilepsy Awareness in the morning, and then Rescue Medication in the afternoon). To book your place on Epilepsy Awareness please follow this link: Epilepsy Awareness
• Have attended Adult Basic Life Support (inc.CPR) within past 12 months, such as the Isle of Wight Council’s ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ course or ‘First Aid at Work’ courses
• Have current and approved medication training, such as the IOWICB ‘Medicines in Care’ course
• Hold responsibility for administering medication in your workplace

PLEASE NOTE – IF ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE NOT HELD AND CURRENT, THE DELEGATE WILL BE TURNED AWAY AND CANCELLATION CHARGES MAY THEN BE APPLIED.

Trainer Biography:

Led by Helena Baker, a Senior Nurse who is a specialist in Epilepsy. Helena has extensive experience working with people with Learning Disabilities in the local community on the Isle of Wight. Helena brings her breadth of knowledge and skills to this session.
