Epilepsy Awareness

Target Group:

This course is specifically for staff who fall into one or more of these categories:
• new to social care
• have not attended any learning in this area
• have not attended learning for over two years
• may lack confidence or have been assessed by their manager as needing to increase competence



Course Aims:

By the end of this course you will have covered these subject areas and have an increased awareness of:

• The most common seizure types
• Epilepsy Treatment
• First Aid
• Risk management
• SUDEP
• Status Epilepticus



Intended Impact:

This awareness session aims to enable delegates to gain a basic understanding of epilepsy including the causes and diagnosis of the condition. Delegates should feel more confident and competent to support those with epilepsy following their attendance.



Isle of Wight Council employees should book via the Learning Hub. External delegates can book by completing the online application form

Helena Baker - Senior Community Learning Disability Nurse & Independent Non-Medical Prescriber - Learning Disability Specialist Healthcare Service

Trainer Biography:

Led by Helena Baker, a Senior Nurse who is a specialist in Epilepsy. Helena has extensive experience working with people with Learning Disabilities in the local community on the Isle of Wight. Helena brings her breadth of knowledge and skills to this session.
