Target Group:
Designated Safeguarding Leads and their nominated deputies in Early Years Settings, Schools, Colleges and Childminders.
Course Aims:
This course is aimed at Designated Safeguarding Leads and their nominated deputies in education settings. It aims to explain the expectations of the role and looks at some of the issues you could face whilst practising in this role. The course will also look at how delegates can prepare their workplace for the safeguarding element of an Ofsted inspection.
Intended Impact:
By the end of this course you will:
• Be equipped to fulfil the role and responsibilities of a Designated Safeguarding Lead in your setting
• Be able to ensure all staff and other adults in your setting are clear about taking necessary action to keep children and learners safer in accordance with policies, procedures and legislation
• Be clear about the process of referral for both Child Protection concerns and concerns regarding radicalisation
• Support staff to contribute to the child protection process and to engage with other agencies to promote the safety and wellbeing of the child or young person
• Implement escalation procedures where there are professional disagreements and challenge other professionals effectively when necessary
• Be able to understand the importance of auditing your organisation’s safeguarding system
• Understand the components of a safer organisation with effective arrangements to promote a comprehensive safeguarding culture that makes a positive impact on the safety and welfare of children and learners

Alongside his work with Safe4Schools he is the founder of The Training Effect a UK wide provider of specialist intervention programmes to schools and organisations. Mark is highly experienced in the development of safeguarding training programmes and has designed courses for multiple LSCB’s across the UK. Mark has a particular professional interest in safeguarding issues related to risk-taking behaviours and emotional well-being
