Isle of Wight Council

Hedgerow Removal Notices

Also known as: Hedgerow Regulations 1997

Service Description: Under the Hedgerows Regulations 1997, it is against the law to remove most countryside hedges without permission. To get permission to remove a hedgerow, you need to submit a Hedgerow Removal Notice and a plan showing the location of the hedgerow. The Regulations are quite complex, so it is advisable to discuss your plans at an early stage with the Ecology Section of the Council, before you seek permission formally. More information, including a blank form, is available on the website.

Note that this is not the part of the council that deals with high hedges between neighbours.
