IW Youth - Rights and Participation

Also known as: Children's Rights, Have a say, RAP

Service Description: Childrens Rights are outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) and reinforced in the Childrens Act of the same year, and all subsequent legislation relating to young people. There are universal rights and also additional ones specific to young people that receive support from Children's Services. Added to this, the IOW Council also sets out their local policies on the services they provide.
The Children's Rights service aims to ensure young people are aware of their rights and entitlements, and that they receive the service and support that they should.
Participation is the active involvement of young people in decision making that affects them as individuals, and collectively by influencing services both strategically and in how they are delivered.
